I loved the convenience of the hard drive, since that replaced an older unit I had that used the small tape cartridges. But the prices for the HD capable units are more than I was willing to pay for a camcorder, so looked at the units that just used memory sticks. | ||

This camcorder is AWESOME! QUALITY TEST VIDEO attached at the end of this video. You can see the complete difference between this SONY HDR-XR500V and my old JVC cam i got in 2006! I got it on sale on BOXING DAY for 950$. (350$ less) The sound is better, the quality is near perfection! I love it! Highly recommended by me! Sorry about the lack of quality from my Old camcorder. I paid $ 199.99 for the unit, hoping that it would be a useful combination of photographs and the project site. It 'impossible to take pictures outside without a lot of camera shake. The screen is impossible to read in direct sunlight, so you do not know when it is recording or not. The video quality is not much better than my Nokia E71 phone. Finally, the new version is exactly the same as the previous one, but about $ 50 more expensive. Are now offering a discount of $ 50, but obviously it's too late for me. I will give this unit for my daughter to play with.
