I loved the convenience of the hard drive, since that replaced an older unit I had that used the small tape cartridges. But the prices for the HD capable units are more than I was willing to pay for a camcorder, so looked at the units that just used memory sticks. | ||

It costs more like $250 when you have to buy an 8gb Sony Pro Duo Memory Card and unless you already have a mini-HDMI to HDMI cord, you'll have to shell out extra for that as well (if you want to connect it to your HDTV). The camera is not HD quality but the price is excellent for the cameras watertight. I initially felt skeptical about the quality of picture and video, I could not find any type of sample image or video out. But after his trip, are not completely satisfied. Gave 5 stars because the menu items are not very self-intuitive. Start-up time the camera is relatively slow.
We used atvs, mountain bikes, and skydiving as test subjects for this new, as-yet unreleased camcorder/POV system from Sony.

I had my Zi8 Kodak for a couple of weeks now. After reading reviews, I was worried about the sound quality. But the sound is beautiful. The problem is the video quality. When I'm shooting in the house with fluorescent lighting, video washed out in white and then return to normal. It happens about once a minute. Video images are grainier than I expected. The camera is logically designed and very easy to use. I wish it were or came with a form of protection for the lens. One of the first video I shot went bad, and I see him. And 'bad for me. My videos are critical. I formatted the card and have not had this problem since then. I have a Kodak SD card - just to be safe. Meanwhile, disappointed by the video quality, I'm happy with the camera in general.
